T he Kaombo project is a development in Block 32 offshore Angola. The block is located at about 140Nm offshore Angola. The development includes six fields, Gindungo, Gengibre, Canela, Louro, Mostarda and Caril which are tied back to two FPSO’s.

The development concept consists of hybrid loops with one insulated production line and one non insulated service line per field. Water injection is required on all fields. Gas is exported to GEP Network. The water depth in the area extends from 1425m (Gindungo) to 1925m (Louro).

TechnipFMC & HMC were responsible for the project execution of the SURF EPCI Package which encompasses the following:

•   Risers (STTR type)
•   Production & Service Flowlines
•   Water Injection Flowlines
•   Gas Export Flowlines
•   Umbilicals
•   Installation of Company provided Subsea Equipment
•   Precommissioning of the whole system.

Despite the complexity and the challenges of this project, the largest ever SURF contract of the oil industry, Total’s attitude towards its contractors has been a combination of trust, cooperation, rigor, and focus on solution finding. This together with the commitment and active involvement at any level from operational teams, management teams, steering committee members, sponsors, …, have made this project a true success.

This different approach and relationship in the way TechnipFMC, Heerema Marine Contractors and Total decided to perform the Kaombo project is now considered as a benchmark within our respective companies. This will be further detailed in the presentation of 19 March 2019.

I joined TOTAL in 2011 and I have been involved in KAOMBO project from late 2012 during the basic engineering & Value Enhancement phases before coming in TP Adria office after Contract Award. Since 2017, I am acting as Project Control Manager for SURF package (Cost Control, Contracts, Planning, HR & DCC).

After designing flexible pipes I moved into a project engineer role and took more or less all project positions since and managed projects and tenders in different places like Canada, Middle East, India, UK or North and West Africa.

I was happy to be VP TMOS for about 3 years before taking the role of TechnipFMC-Heerema Consortium Director for Kaombo in February 2016. I am also the Executive Project Director of the Karish Gas Development Project in Israel which is the first fully integrated project for TechnipFMC.
